Its all on what you download.

If you have virus protection it wont stop you getting a trojan and/or a virus, it will just get rid of it.

If you download something that contains a virus you will still get the virus when you lanch the .exe.

And a Firewall just stops attempts on access to your computer it has nothing to do with a virus.

McAfee is a piece of junk software. I use Norton Anti-virus. My dad uses PC Doctor, Ad-Aware, and CA (never heard of it). As long as you stay away from McAfee you should be good.

McAfee 2010, is apparenlty an improvement - gained alot of publicity everywhere. I guess we will have to wait and see =P

RE: Suggest the antivirus for 2010
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 offers fast threat detection and removal based on virus definitions and system behavior. The interface is decent enough to navigate with, but that most basic of security suite features--the scheduler--is inexplicably buried and unnecessarily hard to get to.Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 offers pricey antivirus protection. The 2009 version scored well on independent anti virus detection and removal tests, but be prepared to pay a premium for what you're getting.
