Re; overwriting:

I don't think renaming images would help (can you imagine the number of swearwords people would work into the URLs? =P). It just means that if, for example, somebody hosts their forum images here, and then changes the skin, they can simply overwrite the old images with the news ones, and not actually have to change any URLs at the forum. =]

Another idea:
Box under image thumbnails that has img codes in it, like photobucket does.
